The next phase of the Beaudesert Town Centre Revitalisation project is about to commence, with drainage improvements to begin in October.

A Scenic Rim Regional Council spokesperson said works will begin at the Spring Creek outlet (Council Depot end), along Short Street to Brisbane Street.

New drains will be installed underground with further isolated works planned along Brisbane Street in early 2024.

With new drains installed, this will divert water into the 11 underground pits to Spring Creek.

These works will allow Council to plan future works early in 2024 to install a chamber over the town’s main drain to divert water, creating a bypass system underground to Short Street Drainage.

The most complex construction works will be the deep excavations and installation of the chambers.

To minimise impacts these works will be completed in a timely manner in isolated work sites, the Council spokesperson said.

Works will generally occur between 6am and 6pm, Monday to Saturday, except for night works when required.

“Every effort will be made to keep these traffic disruptions to a minimum,” the spokesperson said.

“Residents and business owners will experience road closures, reduced speed limits and traffic detours around the work site for each section, allowing the construction crews to undertake their work safely and efficiently.”

Property access will be maintained throughout the works to ensure minimal delays are experienced to local residents and businesses.

Brisbane Street business owner Christine Grimmett of Kalico Country said flooding has been a problem for over a decade.

“I’ve been here for 33 years and for the first 20 we never had flooding but it has happened almost every year since,” she said.

Ms Grimmett welcomed the upgrade to the drainage system.

“It has to happen.  It will be an advantage to us.”

The project will include additional inlets along Brisbane Street and Eaglesfield Street and upgrades to the main drain lines which include a bypass chamber for the town centre drain.

“This major improvement to the underground stormwater network on Brisbane Street will be installed to reduce flooding and protect the town centre; this improvement will be connected to the prior drainage works on Short Street.”

“This project will create confidence for residents’ safety and for existing and future businesses to invest within Beaudesert Town Centre.”

Enquiries regarding the works should be directed to Council on 5540 5111 or by email to mail@scenicrim.qld.gov.au quoting ‘Short Street Drainage Works’.
