Beaudesert residents are reflecting on the people, places and memories that make the town special following the release of singer-songwriter Rick Price’s new single and video clip, Hometown.
The former Beaudesert local returned to the Scenic Rim earlier this year to film the video, which Price describes as a ‘love letter to his little hometown’.
Among those who helped bring the project to life was Beaudesert resident Brendan Dever, who assisted with filming and organising locations for the shoot.
“He just phoned up out of the blue and said he wanted to make a video for the Hometown single,” Mr Dever said.
“He asked if I could help with the filming of the local content and also help with the venues and locations.”
Mr Dever said Price was keen to keep the project local, drawing on people and places that had shaped his early life.
Filming took place at Tamrookum Hall, the St Mary’s Catholic Church and rural roads near Mount Barney and Mount Lindesay.
One of the most memorable moments came at Tamrookum Hall when Price reunited with former teacher Lani Deeran, whom he knew as Lani Costello during his school years.
“When he walked through the door they both sort of stopped in their tracks,” Mr Dever said.
“Rick looked at her and said, ‘Oh wow! Miss Costello. I was in love with you in the third grade.’
“They both ended up in tears, and I think the rest of us did too.”
Mr Dever said the response to the video reflected the deep connections many people maintain with Beaudesert, even after moving away.
“I think it’s mainly family,” he said.
“A lot of us leave Beaudesert but we tend to always find our way back here.”
While the town has grown significantly over the decades, Mr Dever believes much of its character remains unchanged.
“The centre of town hasn’t changed all that much,” he said.
“The bigger change is all the satellite areas and developments around the place.”
