Welcome to my first ‘Council Comment’ column since being elected as the councillor for Division 3.
I would like to thank everyone for their messages of congratulations and words of support since being elected. It is an honour and a privilege to be serving the community in which I was born and raised and called home for most of my life.
I took the opportunity to visit all of the Division 3 polling booths on election day and it was great to meet people, some whom I’ve known for many years and others I was meeting for the first time, and hear of their hopes and aspirations for our region moving forward and how our council can better serve the community.
As I’ve spoken to people across the region, some common concerns have emerged.
Continued development without adequate infrastructure is probably at the top of the list.
My focus is to be part of a strong and united Council that puts the needs of residents and ratepayers at the forefront of every decision. I have already met with members of the Canungra Chamber of Commerce to discuss traffic and parking issues in the centre of town.
I look forward to future meetings with stakeholders across the region to ensure our communities needs are heard and acted upon.
I believe that a strong and united council that engages with the community and responsive to community concerns, will be able to achieve much for our region. To this end, I will continue to make myself available to individuals and community groups as often as possible and can be contacted on my council email and phone number.
We will have a ‘new look’ council moving forward, with Tom Sharp as mayor and a nice blend of new and experienced councillors.
I would like to congratulate Mayor Sharp and all other councillors on their election and look forward to working with them to achieve the best possible future for our region.
