Queensland contemporary biochrome artist Renata Buziak is holding a free entry exhibition at The Centre from May 11 to July 13 to share her take on the Gondwanan lineage plants of the World Heritage Rainforest of Australia located in Scenic Rim with the community.
The launch opens with a special performance by Bloom Collective and includes an artist talk by Renata and a special guest speaker Dr Victoria Garnons-Williams, former Creative industries Senior Lecturer at QUT.
Floras of Gondwanan Heritage will explore multiple techniques of art expression through textiles, works on paper, and videos by Renata Buziak.
Renata’s art was inspired by a visit to Binna Burra Lodge located in the World Heritage area of Woonoongoora where she created her signature biochrome images.
Her new series of biochrome images of rainforest flora focused on Gondwanan lineage plants such as Nothofagus moorei (Antarctic Beech) and Callicoma serratifolia (Black Wattle).
Renata’s biochrome image-making process is based on the fusion of organic and photographic materials to help people reconnect with nature through art-science research.
Her process included fusing plant samples and photographic emulsions over a period of time to allow organic decomposition to transform both materials into new and abstract images of plants.
All are welcome to the exhibition and the gallery hours are 10am to 4pm on Tuesdays to Fridays; Saturdays are 10am to 2pm, and the gallery is closed on public holidays.
