QuoCKAs help with reading

QuoCKA Reading Program
QuoCKA Reading Program

Members of Quota Jimboomba attended Gleneagle State School and Veresdale State School in the last term of this year to conduct the QuoCKA reading program.

The name stands for:

Quo = Quota

C = Cops

K = Kids

A = Altogether

The program aims to increase literacy levels of children and build a sense of community by fostering good relationships between children and community members, as well as encouraging children to enjoy reading.

QuoCKA coordinator Janet Hughes said each child is given a book in which their name is placed on the sticker inside the front cover.

QuoCKA program volunteers read the book to the children and sign it for them.

The program involves many people from the local community, not only  school children but also Quota members, police and others who volunteer their time to read and sign the books for the school children.

Jimboomba Quota Club have organised Quota members as ‘readers’ to come along and read one book at a time to a group of about six children.

They then sign the book for the child.
