Beaudesert Bulletin has welcomed former Kingfisher player and podcaster, Guy Hazlewood to the team.
Guy is a keen sportsperson and is currently studying Journalism through Griffith University.
“After working for many years as a glazier, my love for storytelling, writing and rugby league made me have a career change,” he said.
“Choosing journalism as a career probably started when I was a little kid.”
“I used to record myself on a tape machine reporting on local news and introducing the next song that I recorded off my ‘So Fresh’ CD.”
Guy grew up in Logan and used to make the huge trip out to Beaudesert every Easter and stay at Cedar Glen Farmstay with family friends.
The family moved to the Beaudesert area when he was 12 and he started high school at Beaudesert State High.
He quickly signed up to play rugby league with the Beaudesert Kingfishers under 13s side which he said was a great opportunity to make friends.
In 2021 Guy started a rugby league podcast, ‘A Different League’.
Inspired by radio broadcasters and comedians, Rampaging Roy Slaven and HG Nelson, the irreverent podcast discusses everything NRL with few filters and lots of laughs.
Guy’s close relationship with Beaudesert continues today and he is excited about working with the Beaudesert Bulletin.
“The opportunity to work with the Bulletin and report on sport is pretty special because I have the chance to give back to the community that made me the person that I am today,” he said.
“I guess deep down I’ve always wanted to do this, I just needed to listen to my five year old self.”
Beaudesert Bulletin Editor, Keer Moriarty, said the addition of Guy to the team is part of the paper’s commitment to local news.
“This town has a strong sporting community so we are very excited to have Guy on board.”
Guy is keen to connect with local sporting groups and can be contacted by email guy@scenicrimmedia.com.au or phone 0439 106 321.
