Cleanaway is establishing a local Stakeholder Reference Group (SRG) to advise the project team on local issues, opportunities and to help guide community engagement about the proposed Bromelton Energy and Resource Centre (BERC).
The BERC is planned to be located in the Bromelton State Development Area with the planning application due to be submitted to Queensland Government next year.
Cleanaway is committed to transparent engagement to better understand what matters most to the local community and incorporate it into the planning process.
The local SRG aims to represent local residents, business operators, First Nations people, students, environmental, community and industry groups.
Cleanaway’s Program Director for Energy from Waste Ricky McNally said “The SRG is a great opportunity for the local community get involved and tell us what matters most to them.”
“I encourage anyone with an interest in the BERC to apply to be a member of the SRG and help shape the project.”
Expressions of interest to be part of the SRG will be open online from 26 May 2025 to 15 June 2025.
The SRG is not the only chance to be involved, more consultation is planned for later this year and throughout 2026.
The BERC will act as a catalyst for other industries to co-locate in Bromelton, supporting local manufacturing, innovation and long-term job creation.
“The BERC will generate hundreds of job opportunities during construction and approximately 50 ongoing roles at the facility,” said Mr McNally.
“To ensure we have skilled and ready workforce for the facility, a number of traineeship and apprenticeship opportunities through local training providers, will be available for local residents.”
The BERC proposal supports the Queensland Government vision outlined in the draft new Queensland Waste Strategy 2025-2030 where we have a zero-waste society where we reduce, reuse, recycle and recover resources wherever possible.
