GAVIN McLeod has written more than 2000 poems inspired by his life experience.
The quietly confident Beaudesert local is well-connected around town and people know him everywhere he goes, but what he really loves is expressing himself through poetry.
Mr McLeod, who will turn 61 in August, was hit by a 10-tonne truck while riding his pushbike as a 14-year-old.
He told the Beaudesert Bulletin he had faced many challenges in his life.
“I want to walk by myself, but I can’t at the moment. It means a lot to be able to express myself through poetry,” he said.
Mr McLeod moved to Beaudesert in the late 1980s and was an original participant with local support organisation Rural Lifestyle Options Australia (RLOA), which he is still a part of today.
Mr McLeod said he hoped to inspire people by sharing one of his poems via the Bulletin.
The piece we are choosing to share, titled Fountain of Youth, is infused with Mr McLeod’s positivity and zest for life as we head into a new year full of positivity.
Mr McLeod has wanted to publish his poetry for a long time and the Bulletin was pleased to be able to help him achieve his goals.
