U3A shines in the arts

A LOCAL WIN: Beaudesert U3A member Jenny Stedman with her third-place painting Outback Gum at the Beaudesert Show.

LOCAL creativity shines at Beaudesert U3A as multiple members have entered their paintings into local shows – some even returning home a prize winner.

Various art pieces created by the talented group could have been seen at the Beaudesert, Canungra and Boonah Shows over the years.

Beaudesert U3A members Keith George, Denice Knight, Narelle Jones, Michael Goebel and Jenny Stedman all came home as winners.

Keith won first place for Acrylic Painting. Denice Knight won first place for Pastels and second place for Any Medium and Miniature Painting. Narelle won second place for Still Life Oils or Acrylic and third place for Painting Native/Florals.  Michael won Champion Painting by Local Artist, first place for Painting Any Medium, second place for Painting Landscape and third place for Miniature Painting. Jenny won third place in for her painting Outback Gum.

Stephanie Costa didn’t come home with her prize painting, but rather her collage of mix medium was sold on the day.

“It felt great that someone appreciates and thinks that your work is really good,” she said.

She has only been entering the Beaudesert Show for the past few years, but she has managed to be a prize winner each time.

Stephanie has been painting for more than 40 years – a passion she found after suffering from a brain aneurism in her 20s.

“Painting to me is like medicine; it’s just healing,” she said.

“I think everyone should paint. It’s the only time that it’s just you and the paint – a sort of escape.”

Stephanie has been going to Beaudesert U3A art classes for more than two years.

She enjoys being with likeminded artists and making life-long friendships through the group.

“I heard about it from Michael, so I thought I’ll give it a go. It’s been really great for me,” Stephanie said.

“It’s a good group of people that get together.”

Beaudesert U3A run various activities and classes throughout the year for people in their Third Age of their lives. For more information, visit u3abeaudesert.com
