The Mountain Sparkles

On the last weekend of September gardens in the ‘green behind the gold’ sparkled with a kaleidoscope of colours welcoming visitors to Springtime on the Mountain 2025.

Visitors from as far as Kempsey, Coffs Harbour, Toowoomba, Buderim, Sunshine Coast and places in between, as well as locals, were curious and ventured into the six exclusive private gardens open for the three-day celebration heralding the arrival of Spring.

There was even a surprise visit from a world-renowned horticultural photographer from Pennsylvania USA discovering what was on the other side of our garden gates.

Young and old expressed their enjoyment.

A two-year-old bounced gaily chanting excitedly, “I love flowers, I love flowers” while her five-year-old brother stood with his arms out stretched and gleefully stated, “My dreams have come true- I am in a meadow of flowers!”

Others reminisced, remembering seeing that plant at their grandma’s or their mum always growing those annuals every Spring.

Asking questions of the owners, listening to the buzzing of bees or harmonies of choirs, taking photographs, getting ideas- all left delighted.

Our garden owners appreciated the smiles, thank you’s and respectful and gracious acknowledgements of their hard work.

Despite Springtime turning into Summertime, the garden owners unanimously found pleasure in the enthusiastic responses of the visitors, realising that wandering through a large garden maybe a novelty for some, as they witnessed in others the stirring of pleasant memories or glimpsing a visitor silently soaking in the tranquillity of a space or admiring the grandeur of a stand of trees.

The garden owners enjoyed the gathering of novice and expert gardeners from whom they too, gained inspiration, tips and tricks.

This annual event has been organised for over forty years by the Tamborine Mountain Garden Club.

Thank you to all who joined us in making it a success. Community groups and businesses supported the event with stalls, entertainment, arts and crafts, plants, great food and coffee.

Thank you to the locals who stepped through the garden gates to explore the gardens amongst the forest.

Together all welcomed the visitors who came to the kaleidoscope of colours in the ‘green behind the gold’- our home.
