The past few weeks have been very busy for Council, with plenty happening right around the region.
The Barracks in Brisbane was the venue for the media launch of the new Scenic Rim Visitor Guide, a collaboration between Destination Scenic Rim and Council.
The new 64-page publication is packed with inspiration and practical information. It showcases the region’s diverse tourism offerings and will play an important role in supporting the continued growth of the region’s visitor economy.
The Guide is being distributed to visitor information centres, tourism hubs and key travel touchpoints across Queensland and surrounding states, helping to position the region front-of-mind for future travellers. It’s also available in digital format from www.VisitScenicRim.com.au and www.DestinationScenicRim.com.au
The Kooralbyn Town Centre Master Plan is now in its final stages, and I look forward to presenting it to Council for endorsement soon. I want to thank our community for sharing your feedback and lived experiences, which have been invaluable in shaping this plan. Delivering the town centre master plan will happen gradually, guided by planning, collaboration, and funding. We look forward to keeping the community informed as projects are completed and seeing the Kooralbyn’s vision come to life.
As part of Council’s ongoing commitment to a safe and accessible region, construction of a new roundabout is planned for the intersection of Eaglesfield Street and Tina Street in Beaudesert. To stay updated on Council’s road projects such as the Eaglesfield Street and Tina Street intersections, follow us on Facebook or visit our website for the latest information.
The Scenic Rim Land for Wildlife Glossy Black Cockatoo Morning at a conservation reserve at Christmas Creek on May 17 was a very enjoyable event and part of the Great Glossy Count 2026. The weather was sunny and warm, and the walk was excellent as we looked over a private conservation reserve. We saw native birds and insects and discussed concerns we have in maintaining our properties for the generations to come.
This past month has also seen Council facilitating a number of events and workshops for Small Business Month focusing on a “Future Ready” theme. This state-wide initiative aimed to help local businesses build resilience, embrace innovation, and prepare for new opportunities, including those arising from the Brisbane 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games. Networking opportunities like these will be increasingly important as our businesses strive to meet the growing needs of our region.
The Domestic and Family Violence Vigil at Beaudesert’s Jubilee Park was a very solemn event attended by around 60 people. Statistics show that police spend around 80 per cent of their time on DVF calls and sadly deaths continue to occur. Thank you to Cr Kerri Cryer who gave a moving speech.
It’s a privilege to be Scenic Rim’s Tourism and Regional Events Portfolio Councillor and in the month ahead I’m looking forward to Eat Local Month which begins on Friday, May 29. This celebration has put our region on the map, and I have every confidence that this year will be no exception.
