BUSINESS owners in the northern section of Beaudesert CBD have praised Council for installing two new bins on Brisbane Street and say it is a good start towards addressing the town’s rubbish problem.

One bin is outside the space shared by ACS Engineers and Rylec QLD and the other is across the road.

It comes off the back of a concerted, ongoing campaign led by the Beaudesert Chamber of Commerce and its members, supported by the Beaudesert Bulletin.

Angela Harlen from ACS Engineers said the bins were sorely needed.

“On the northern side is where basically all the fast-food outlets are, and some new service stations, and we’ve noticed the amount of rubbish has accumulated,” she said.

“Most people want to do the right thing, but if there’s no bins supplied, they don’t have that option. We’re at the gateway to the town and I think it looks nice if it’s clean, but daily we pick up rubbish from outside our business.”

She praised Council for installing them.

“It acknowledges there’s a rubbish problem. I’d assume they’re trial bins because they don’t have the fancy bin surrounds,” she said.

“We thank Council for doing it, and it’d be great if they’d start thinking about all the other places bins could be strategically placed.”

Susan Shay from ACS Engineers encouraged locals to use the bins.

“Human nature is if there’s a bin people will use it, so our hope is these bins are utilised,” she said.”

Prior to the bins being installed on April 9, there were no public bins on Brisbane Street north of Davidson Park despite that part of the CBD having the highest concentration of fast-food outlets plus service stations, major supermarkets, a pub, bottle shop, cafes, health, retail and office spaces and car yards.

In February, in response to enquiries from the Beaudesert Bulletin, Council said it was investigating a trial placement of public bins at the northern entry to Beaudesert.

The Bulletin made a further enquiry asking if the new bins were part of the trial and where else Council will install bins on Brisbane Street, however Council was not able to respond.
