A week after winning the WKBF Australian title, Sean Olsen has won a fight at XFC 53 on 5 hours’ notice.
Fighters typically have a fight camp that lasts a couple of months so taking a call to fight on a few hours’ notice is a risky move for a fighter – especially after only just competing.
“I was doing housework when I got the call up from my trainer Geordie,” Sean laughs.
“He said that he just got a call off a promoter from XFC asking if I wanted to fight that night. I said, let’s do it!”
The opportunity to fight Mitch Morrison at XFC came about after one of the fighters weighed in 3kgs heavier than the allowed weight, and Sean took his place.
“Our competition team like to remain as ready as possible in case something like this ever happens,” Sean said.
The fight was over in the final seconds of the first round after Morrison was caught with a clean left hook from Olsen.
“I felt great and it was awesome being back in there fighting so soon,” Sean said.
“It doesn’t matter the layout. Whether it’s a cage, the ring or a matted competition area, I just love being there and competing with my team”.
With only a few weeks left of 2021, could we see Sean in the ring or cage one more time?
“The plan is to just enjoy Christmas with the family and then get straight back into it,” he said.
“2022 is going to be a massive year!”
