Division Two Cr Jeff McConnell has been appointed to the position of Deputy Mayor, Scenic Rim Regional Council.
Mayor Greg Christensen nominated Cr Michael Enright for a second term in the position, thanking him for the gravitas he brought to the role and his diligence in carrying out duties, at times at short notice.
There was no seconder for Cr Enright’s nomination.
Cr Duncan McInnes nominated Cr McConnell, seconded by Cr Marshall Chalk.
Mayor Christensen spoke against Cr McConnell’s appointment, saying Cr McConnell may need further development to be ready for the role.
Cr McConnell was elected with only Mayor Christensen and Cr Enright voting against the appointment.
“I would like to congratulate and thank Councillor Enright for the term he served as Deputy Mayor,” Cr McConnell said.
“I look forward to the opportunities this role will present over the next twelve months while continuing to work alongside the Mayor and fellow Councillors.”
Since 2016, the position of Deputy Mayor has been rotated annually amongst Elected Members.
