The Beaudesert U3A Branch have been successful in receiving a $8,074 grant from the Gambling Community Benefit Fun (GCBF) to go towards the annual state conference they are hosting late May.
Brendan Dever, president of Beaudesert U3A, says that the branch was asked in 2022 to host the conference, and they applied for the grant in August 2023.
The grant will support the association in purchasing conference booklets, contracting an audio-visual technician, and supplying professional speakers for interactive training sessions.
“We were a little bit nervous; we knew that we would find out if we were successful or not in March, but it was relatively close to the conference and wouldn’t have given us much time to organise a Plan B if we were unsuccessful,” says Brendan.
“Delegates from all the various U3As attend the conference over three days,” says Association Publicity Officer Diane Rewko.
“There will be informative speakers giving valuable information. U3A is all about learning for seniors, our bottom line is to promote education for seniors.”
Along with Beaudesert U3A, Beaudesert and Districts Branch Little Athletics Centre Inc received $13602.50 to purchase high jump equipment.
