AUSTRALIA DAY AWARDS

One of the Scenic Rim’s greatest treasures are our people who so generously give of their skills, time and talents for the benefit of others in our communities. This community spirit remains the backbone of our towns, villages and rural communities.

The passionate work of volunteers through our community and sporting groups is not done for personal gain or attention, but to help build stronger and healthier communities.

Nominations are now open for the 2024 Australia Day Awards and close on Monday 13 November 2023. Details of how to submit nominations are on Council’s website. I’m sure we all know someone who deserves to be recognised for their tireless efforts. Who will you nominate?

COMMUNITY GRANTS

Council resolved to approve Community Grant funding to 38 projects across the region for over $281,000. I was delighted that many Beaudesert Community Groups and Sporting Clubs received funding towards their projects.

Some of the Minor Grants recipients include the Beaudesert Horse and Pony Club for day yards, Beaudesert Bowls Club for kitchen equipment, Beaudesert Chamber of Commerce for Carols in the Park, and Rotary Club of Beaudesert for a website upgrade.

In the Major Grants, the Beaudesert Netball Club were allocated $20,000 towards Netball Court restoration and the Historical Society of Beaudesert will receive $18,000 towards replacing their fencing and security. Congratulations to all who were successful in this round of grants.

SELWYN PARK LIGHTING

Council recently completed a full review of Council-owned Sporting Facilities across the region as part of developing a long-term plan to cater for the future needs of our communities.

One of the areas that were identified was the lack of adequate sports field lighting. Council provided $750,000 to upgrade sports field lighting in key locations across the region. I was thrilled to see Selwyn Park’s new energy efficient LED lights being installed recently by local Tradesmen. This will increase the lighting capacity to allow night games and training for our Soccer teams.

Thank you to the Selwyn Park Sports Management Association, the Beaudesert Soccer & Cricket clubs for working with Council to achieve this outcome.
