Woodhill Hall celebrated their 130th anniversary with a celebration dance on April 20 at 6098 Mt Lindesay Highway, Woodhill from 7pm.

The event had a theme of Old Time/New Vogue and consisted of live music from returning band “The Undecided”, and a supper for visitors to enjoy.

More than 60 enjoyed themselves at the Hall with a celebration cake cut by local Woodhill residents to kick off the night.

Memorabilia including photos, trophies, newspaper articles, and sashes were on display throughout the night.

Woodhill Hall has celebrated previous anniversaries through celebration dances, including their 25th Anniversary in 1950 where the dancing continued into the small hours of the morning.

The Hall held many functions, from dances to weddings, with a monthly dance held to fundraise for local charities.

Long-time Secretary Arthur Day and Robin Hopkins shared some stories about the history of the hall and some of their fondest memories.

“The activities and stories of this old hall would more than fill a book – the stories can go on and on with many different uses of the hall,” Arthur said.

Robin is a descendent of John Hopkins who was a part of the original committee back in 1984.

His father Rob Hopkins had his fair share being part of the Woodhill Hall committee as he was their secretary for over 20 years.

“I congratulate the present committee for their diligence and the way they’ve stuck to the Woodhill Hall because it’s great to come back and see it,” Robin said.

“Thank you, committee, and I thank you all for coming out here today.”

The original Woodhill Hall committee was filled with dedicated residents from the local community and has continued throughout the past 130 years with the current team having over 200 years of voluntary service.
