Tamrookum Memorial Hall held a B150 Dancing Through the Ages Ball on April 6 as part of the Beaudesert sesquicentennial celebrations.
The theme of the night as Dancing Through the Ages which was inspired by the long history of the town hall dances in the region and the important of these to the community.
Previous Miss and Mrs Beaudesert winners were sent a special invitation to come to the event, wear their sashes, and present themselves on the evening.
Tamrookum Memorial Hall President Lani Deeran said she was over the moon with over 170 guests attending this event, despite the wet weather.
“I was absolutely blown away – we danced right until midnight; there was still so many on the dance floor,” Lani said.
The night kicked off with Town Crier Syd Norman and Consort Pauline, following with the previous Miss and Mrs Beaudesert winners presented to the crowed and concluding with endless hours to dance the night away.
“Consort Pauline gave a really lovely atmosphere – it really set the scene for the evening,” Lani said.
The guests also enjoyed a delicious supper, which the country dances were always well known for.
Lani welcomed the dancers to the hall, saying there is much to celebrate this year.
“This is the 72nd Anniversary of this lovely hall and this year with our theme ‘Dancing Through the Ages’ B150 Ball, we recognise the valuable contribution that the many dance halls have made to the Beaudesert communities as the town celebrates its sesquicentennial or more commonly known as, its 150th birthday,” she said.
“As we celebrate, one notable difference is the fact that back in the early days, there were only a dozen or so dances on the program – nevertheless, they ran until the early hours of the morning.”
“The focus of this evening is the presentation of the Miss and Mrs Beaudesert Shire – it is a testament to the value these halls brought into the lives of so many residents on their social calendar.”
Lani said The Dancing Through the Ages B150 Ball was a huge success and hopefully sparked interest for more people to attend the regular dances held halls at Tamrookum and across the region.
