The recent Commonwealth Games saw our bowling club fondly reminiscing about our critical involvement in preparing the Australian Bowls team, the Jackaroos, for the 2022 Games in Birmingham, where they secured their best-ever overseas performance.
It was particularly pleasing to see the success of our Para Bowlers, especially Serena Bonnell, after we personally witnessed her enormous work ethic in preparation for the previous Games.
While our Singles Champions, Dave Bartholomeusz and Susie Radford (pictured with her Paradise Point opponent, Regan), did not progress to the Champion of Champions finals, they did us proud.
We are most pleased to report, however, that our Ladies Pairs made it as far as the semi-final, performing admirably and earning the respect of the entire district.
Congratulations to Susie Radford and Sue Arthur on a tremendous result.
The second Pennant trial against the strong Beaudesert club redressed the game one loss, with interest and it was satisfying to record a win at Beaudesert.
The trial victory did not, however, translate into first-round success against the massive Club Helensvale.
The inaugural Ladies Bowls Hour last Saturday was a most enjoyable success, and it is hoped even more ladies will come along for the fun each Saturday at 11am – all you need is a smile!
Much fun was also had at the Rathdowney Friendship Day, enjoyed by Scenic Rim clubs Beaudesert, Canungra, Rathdowney and Tamborine Mountain, with our hosting duties to come on Monday, August 24.
Prior to that, we host the Musgrave Maulers from Club Musgrave on August 16 and will be supporting the Mountain’s entry into the Queensland Secondary Schools Cup at Pine Rivers Bowls Club on August 19 and 20.
Deep thanks go to our coaches Susie Radford, Sue Arthur and Trish West for getting the Tamborine Mountain High School team up to speed.
Finally, the Bowls Club AGM will be held at Club Tamborine on Sunday, August 30.
The past year has been very successful, and it is with great anticipation that the club looks forward to another fabulous year ahead.
