Beaudesert a great fit for fashion entrepreneur

When fashion entrepreneur Cassandra Pons and her now husband Dillon moved to Beaudesert in 2019, they found a community where their careers could thrive.

Cassandra, 28, founded Lazy Girl Lingerie as a side hustle in 2016 and, since moving here from the Gold Coast, has been able to make it her full-time livelihood.

She designs, pattern makes and sews all her own designs from her studio in Beaudesert, packs and posts orders all over the world and runs her website and online marketing.

Creativity is in Cassandra’s blood, and she has been honing her craft since her nana taught her to sew on an old Singer machine when she was growing up in Townsville.

She found her niche in lingerie while studying fashion design, when she discovered the joy of creating custom sized pieces that would make people feel amazing in their own skin.

Her career was shaped during an internship that led to working with a bridal label straight out of college, and she also worked for a formalwear label.

Cassandra said Beaudesert was a great fit.

“Dillon started working for RLOA and kept telling me about this little town called Beaudesert. We were looking for a scenic change, a bit more room for our puppies and all my sewing machines. I asked if Beaudesert had a post office and a gym, Dillon said yes, and here we are,” she said.

“It was a big adjustment – I didn’t know a single person except for Dillon – but I threw myself into meeting people and found such a tight knit sense of community.”

She said she found a lot of support as a small business owner in Beaudesert, particularly through Scenic Rim Regional Council.

Inspired by the natural beauty around her, Cassandra is now looking to tell more of her story.

“My family is part of the Waanyi tribe in the Gulf of Carpentaria. I think that’s what’s made me really passionate about diversity – I want to show my support for women of all shapes, sizes and colours. I think inclusion is really important. I’ve never really spoken about my own heritage much, and I feel like it’s time to do that,” she said.
