BADCAP announces latest workshops

BADCAP (Beaudesert and District Community Arts Project) is holding several communal workshops at the Stationmaster House, 100 Brisbane St, including activities specific to Mother’s Day, so people can make a beautiful gift to give their mothers on their special day.

Cindy Wood starts the ball rolling on Friday night, May 10, with her Weave and Sip workshop from 5:30pm to 8pm.

This workshop invites ten people to sip away while weaving their hearts out, making a small basket from natural fibers.

Saturday May 11 will see the ever-popular black-smithing with the BADCAP blacksmiths back and there will be workshops in the morning and the afternoon.

The BADCAP blacksmiths were formed out of the Arts in the Olives 16 years ago with Dave Grimmett and Dave Clark building entire sets of equipment for six participants.

Over the last few years, they’ve had to turn people away because of the popularity of these workshops and this year both are already sold out.

The Wooden Spoon Carving workshops will be run by Browns Plains professional wood carver Tom Murphy, assisted by Chris Grimmett.

Workshops are on Saturday May 11 from 9am to 11:30am and 12:30 to 3pm, both with a limit of ten people per session.

If you like the sound of felted tea lights, the workshop with Shannon Hunter is not the be missed.

Felting is her passion, and she loves the endless possibilities of blending colour, creating texture, and sculpting the layers while incorporating various fabrics into her work.

This workshop will teach a class of ten basic embroidery and runs on Saturday May 11 from 9am to 11:30am.

Multiskilled artist Nika Norman holds many home workshops at Rathdowney but has agreed to venture out to BADCAP and teach her Glass-on-Glass Mosaic Workshop.

Learn how to cut glass and grout to create a unique suncatcher on Saturday May 11 from 12.30pm to 3pm. Limited to 10 people.

BADCAP is workshops is only $50, which includes tuition and materials as well as morning and afternoon tea.
