Australia’s natural history and its complex relationship with the environment have inspired a captivating exhibition, Maps & Traces, opening at The Centre Beaudesert on Saturday February 8.
Scenic Rim Regional Council’s first exhibition of 2025 features new drawings and paintings by Tamborine Mountain artist Bronwyn Davies, whose large works on paper celebrate trees, symbols of survival and change, to reveal deeper stories.
Community Arts and Culture portfolio Councillor Kerri Cryer, who will open the exhibition, said it was an enriching visual experience not to be missed.
“If a picture is worth a thousand words, then Bronwyn’s new collection invites you into a dialogue of our nation’s rich tapestry of stories and landscapes,” she said.
“This beautiful exhibition encourages us to reflect on how our identities are shaped by the places we inhabit and also proudly showcases the artistic talent within our community.”
Maps & Traces builds on the foundations of Davies’ 2021 exhibition In Consideration of Trees, delving deeper into stories of survival and loss, and the fragility of landscapes shaped by time, tradition, and human intervention.
Trees remain a central element to many of the artworks, some of which are skilfully overlayed on vintage, travel, orthographic, cadastral and tourist maps.
As the first major event on the 2025 Scenic Rim cultural calendar, the exhibition’s free public launch on Saturday February 8 will begin with a Smoking Ceremony at 1.50pm at the entrance to The Centre Beaudesert.
Cr Cryer will be a guest speaker at the launch, which will include a conversation with Bronwyn Davies and Joanna Goodwin of Sculpture by the Sea.

“We hope that Maps & Traces will resonate with both locals and visitors alike, fostering a deeper appreciation for the heritage and natural beauty that defines Australia and the Scenic Rim,” Cr Cryer said.
The free Maps & Traces exhibition runs from 8 February to 17 April 2025.
