The Sunshine Coast-based LifeFlight aeromedical crew this afternoon winched a lost hiker to safety after he was stranded on a mountain for two nights and three days.

It is believed the man in his 60s called his neighbour who then contacted the Queensland Police Service (QPS).

The LifeFlight rescue helicopter was tasked by QPS at 11.05am to a mountain in the Scenic Rim region.

The LifeFlight crew winched the Queensland Ambulance Service (QAS) flight paramedic and rescue crewman down to the patient.

The man was treated for dehydration and winched back to the helicopter.

He was flown to a nearby location where he was met by QPS and driven to Beaudesert Hospital in a stable condition.
