Barry Balmer started showing chickens at the Beaudesert Show in 1950.
Seventy three years later he had six entries in the show, achieving four firsts and two seconds.
Barry doesn’t have a favourite breed, but this year he showed Rhode Island Whites, White Leghorn, Blue Game and Black Wyandotte.
“I don’t have any favourites – I’ve had more breeds than you can poke a stick at,” said Barry.
Inspired by childhood neighbours, Mini and Tiny Clark, Barry started breeding and showing chickens with a pair of bantams they gifted him when he was nine years old.
He has since shown at Beaudesert, Boonah, Beenleigh, Gold Coast, Brookfield and showed at the Ekka up until last year.
