McAuley College students performed beyond expectations at the South East Colleges Association (SECA) Athletics Championships on Wednesday 17 August.
McAuley College has the third smallest population of the participating schools, but still finished fourth overall, to the delight of McAuley College Sports Leader, Amy Richards.
Outstanding results included three runner-up age champions:
13 years boys – Nicholas Brandon
14 years boys – Logan Collins
15 years girls – Tayla Knickel
McAuley also had 36 top three finishes, 11 of those first placings.
The 15 year old girls placed first overall in their division with some outstanding results.
The 15 years girls 4 x 100m relay team broke the SECA record with a time of 56.58.
Members of the relay team were Tayla Knickel, Lilly Braxton, Hannah Brown and Emmy Heit.
Emmy and Tayla took first and second place respectively in the 15 year old girls 100 metre race, first and second in the 15 year old girls long jump and first and third in the 200 metres.
Mia Ezienberg took first place in the 14 year old girls 200 metres with a time of 28.18, narrowly missing the SECA record time of 27.89.
In the Girls 17-19 400 metre, Anna Brandon won against a very competitive field with a time of 1:06.96.
McAuley students also performed well in the shot put with Tylah Vaitupu, Lilly Braxton and Charlie Love all placing first in their age group.
Ms Richards said she was proud of the results for McAuley College and congratulated the students on their performance.
“Perhaps the greatest statistic would be that of our participation percentage with McAuley College students filling around 95% of the events we were eligible to participate in,” she said.
“Every single student who had the honour of representing their College played their part, not just in earning valuable points, not just in participating and becoming a ‘statistic’ but in being a representation of our College.”
The fourth place overall position is McAuley College’s best SECA sport result to date.
The carnival was cancelled due to COVID in 2020 and 2021, so this is the first time in three years that the thirteen schools involved in the Association gathered together for this event.
