Beaudesert Seniors held their Annual General Meeting (AGM) on June 11 at Beaudesert Golf Club with 21 members gathered together to announce their 2024/25 committee.
Beaudesert Seniors is a social club for locals who appreciate participating in community activities, such as morning lawn bowls, playing cards, and joining other members for fortnightly meetings.
The morning consisted of a hot meal and dessert provided by the golf club, with live entertainment from Boonah’s father-daughter duo Tanya Holdorf and Darryl Freiberg.
There were multiple raffle prizes up for grabs to top off the day.
Seven lucky winners won various raffle prizes including a new toaster, kettle, chopping board and place mats, grocery items, cash winnings and more.
President Helen Scroggie was happy to announce that most of the committee would be continuing in their existing positions.
Helen was voted to continue as President with Vice President Heather Barnes, Treasurer Lynette Kenny and Secretary Sylvia Hickey remaining in their current positions, alongside Edwin Youll accepting the position of Patron.
“I will continue to promote Seniors and I look forward to our fortnightly meetings,” Edwin said.
“I think we bring something to this town.”
The day was filled with chatter and smiling faces as some members got up and danced their hearts away while others joined in conversations at their tables.
Helen attended her first meeting seven years ago because she wanted to reconnect with her neighbour of 40 years, Beryl Blackley, after seeing her name mentioned in a local paper.
Helen is saddened to see the decline in attendance of Beaudesert Seniors members and would appreciate any newcomers who would like to come and join in on activities or meetings.
“If there is anyone out there around Beaudesert, we’d love to welcome some new members – our numbers are going down, so come along,” Helen said.
“If you want to play indoor bowls, play cards, or just enjoy the music and the company, it’d be wonderful to see you.”
