Archers from across Australia gathered at Glenapp Station, Running Creek, for Benchmark 3D Archery Shooters Association’s State Titles.

Benchmark 3D Archery Shooters Association is a private association hosting marked distance archery events using a range of 3D targets.

Organiser Rob Varyo said the 56 competitors came from Perth, Rockhampton and Sydney for the two day event.

“It was wonderful to have competitors travel from as far as Western Australia, Sydney and Rockhampton to compete in the event,” he said.

“Everyone loved the location, although it was a bit chilly Saturday morning.  They quickly warmed up to finish the first day off with a fun Teams event, which raised $450 for the RUOK organisation.”

“Sunday finished off with the top five shootout of the benchmark and top scoring shootout for other divisions.”

Rob thanked the owners and managers of Glenapp Station for hosting the event and volunteers from Rathdowney State School P&C who catered for the competitors from Friday night through to Sunday afternoon.

Entrants included former Australian Commonwealth Games archer Bec Darby who is returning to competition after a three year break due to injury.

Bec said Glenapp Station was a great location for the competition and praised organisers for a challenging but enjoyable course.

“I wasn’t sure what to expect when I came out but the course was great,” she said.

“We had a range of different environments, going along the creek and also across the plains and hills.”

Bec competed in the 2010 Commonwealth Games in Dehli, India and was previously ranked number one in the world in women’s freestyle archery.

Beaudesert couple Brian and Andrea McFarlane both competed, with Brian finishing tenth overall.

Top three shooters for the weekend were Matt McDougall (Brisbane), Mitchell King (Gladstone) and Danie Oosthuizen (Western Australia).
