THE BEAUDESERT Pistol Club has targeted women and girls as future members of the club with its introduction of a new event called Girls on Target.

Funding for the program was supplied by the Queensland Department of Tourism and Sport to promote activity in sport by woman and girls.

The club meets regularly at the Vey and Judy Payne shooting complex at Allenview which features a number of ranges for different competitions.

The new event offers women and girls the chance to come along to the club to learn about the sport.

On the day they will also be given an opportunity to fire an air pistol at the club’s indoor Air Range.

Those interested will be able to shoot at three Girls on Target events after which they will need to join the club and undertake training by club coaches during a probationary period.

Shooting is low impact sport which anyone to compete as long as their eyes hold out and they can lift a pistol.

Those confined to wheelchairs can enjoy pistol shooting from a seated position.

At the end of the probationary period a member can apply for a Cat H pistol license and purchase their first pistol.

The only ongoing cost will be for ammunition and the annual club fees.

Targets and patches are provided and training and coaching is free.

To find our more or register to attend one of the club’s Girls on Target meetings phone or text 0400 528 845.

The cost is just $10 which includes morning tea.
