PLANS for the proposed new Beaudesert Library have been shelved, with Scenic Rim Regional Council unable to obtain funding for the project.
In the current budget, Council has allocated $200,000 for design upgrades to the Beaudesert Library, however it remains unclear what this will entail.
A Council Spokesperson said the allocation of funding has been attributed to the review of all matters pertaining to the Beaudesert Library.
“This may include a review of the designs for a new library, as well as a review of the existing library facility. Standard procurement processes will be followed to determine how these funds will be utilised.”
The Beaudesert Town Centre revitalisation was the result of community consultation undertaken over several years, which included the proposed library and community hub building.
During this time a number of options for the Beaudesert Library and community hub were considered, including expanding the current library.
Council received Grant funding of $409,090 under the Maturing the Infrastructure project Pipeline Program 2 to undertake a business case and detailed design for the Beaudesert Library.
The project was shovel ready to enable Council to apply for grant funding from both Federal and State Governments.
The spokesperson said if there is significant change to current plans Council will recommence community consultation.
Visits to Beaudesert Library have fallen over the past two years by over 2,000 visits, in comparison to the recently upgraded Tamborine Mountain Library, where visits have increased by 20,000 per year.
