FOOD box charity Tracey’s Pantry will be well-equipped to support people in need after receiving $500 from the local community choir.

A Choired Taste donated the money to Tracey’s Pantry in honour of much-loved choir member, the late Tracey Day, who is the inspiration behind Tracey’s Pantry.

When community-minded local Tracey passed away in 2019 due to cancer, her mum Judy Day set up the charity to carry on her daughter’s legacy.

Karen Hardgrave from A Choired Taste said the group wanted to donate the money to a local charity assisting locals directly and felt a particular connection to Tracey’s Pantry through soprano Tracey, who loved singing with the group.

The choir had the $500 to donate through a grant they secured via the Foundation for Rural and Regional Renewal.

Judy said the money would be put to good use.

“It’s a great help and we’re getting more calls on our services all the time as people are finding it harder to make things work,” she said.

“It started off after Covid and it’s grown from there. This $500 donation will do us three or four weeks probably.”

She said Tracey’s legacy continued to be honoured.

“Looking after people is what Tracey did. She loved cooking meals and taking them to people and she looked after one of our previous ministers who retired in her street. She used to cook five or six meals and take them up to put in his freezer,” she said.

“She loved cooking and wherever she went she took a plate of something to share, so we’re continuing on that legacy of helping others.”

Tracey’s Pantry is open 1pm to 3pm every Friday behind the Uniting Church on William Street, Beaudesert.

Boxes of non-perishable goods cost $10 to cover some costs and Tracey’s Pantry also adds frozen food, milk, bread, eggs if they have them, fresh vegetables.
