Beaudesert Meals on Wheels is ramping up its efforts to find a permanent place to call home.

At the Beaudesert and District Meals on Wheels AGM, Coordinator and outgoing President Susan Weymouth shared the group’s determination to secure a permanent premises.

“Meals on Wheels Beaudesert have been chasing for three years now a permanent home that we can grow into and gives us total autonomy, especially now as we have outgrown where we are,” she said.

“I had hoped for this problem to be solved during my term, but not for the want of being tenacious and trying to find every option. David Johnson (Treasurer) and I have and are continually liaising with Scenic Rim Regional Council, real estates, politicians and community groups and landlords for years, with frustratingly no positive outcomes due to reasons sometimes that are illogical and on occasion laughably pathetic, if it was not so important.”

Division 4 Councillor Michael Enright, Deputy Mayor Jeff McConnell and Division 3 Councillor Virginia West were all at the meeting and each voiced their support for the push.

Cr McConnell said he believes a priority for Council should be a multi-purpose building to be used by Meals on Wheels, in order to get state and federal support.

“We need to make 2022 the year Meals on Wheels finds its venue. Let’s hope we can do it together,” said Cr West.

Incoming President Barb Ware-Crawford spoke about the urgency of the situation and her desire to work closely with the Deputy Mayor to secure a multi-purpose building.

“It’s evidently we need this sooner rather than later,” she said.

Ms Ware-Crawford emphasised the critical role Meals on Wheels volunteers play in servicing the region and paid tribute to the strong client focus driven by Mrs Weymouth in her tenure as President.

Beaudesert and District Meals on Wheels celebrates its 40th anniversary in October and will deliver its 250,000th meal in September.

The incoming committee consists of Barb Ware-Crawford (President), Susan Weymouth (Secretary), Dave Johnson (Treasurer), Peter Kneen (Vice President) Shirley Baldwin, David Parkins, Pat Burnett (Committee Members) and Paul Sheffield (Client Representative).
