Keen Beaudesert walkers and runners trudged and waded 30km through army land in Canungra to pay homage to those who sacrificed their lives for their country.

Linda Henry, Sarah Arkinstall, Melissa Frazer, Shelly Currie and Mandy Willis (pictured) were among locals to do the Kokoda Legacy event, which marked the 80th anniversary since the Kokoda Campaign in 1942.

Fellow locals Josh Cocks and his son Nathaniel also did Kokoda Legacy, as did several staff from McAuley College.

The day after Remembrance Day, they set out from Canungra Golf Course near Kokoda Barracks, where many soldiers were trained in jungle warfare before being sent out to battle during WWII.

Funds raised through the event went to the Kokoda Youth Foundation and Legacy Gold Coast.
