Iconic carnival a success

The 66th annual Christmas Creek Valley Athletics Carnival filled the Rathdowney State School grounds with sporting prowess and school spirit on 16-17 June.

Students from Darlington, Hillview, Tamrookum and Rathdowney competed at the two-day carnival.

Small but mighty Darlington State School won the Christmas Creek Cup for highest average points divided by students and Tamrookum State School won the Dennis Shield for highest total points.

Since 1954, the Christmas Creek Cup has been won by Darlington 9 times (including 2022), Hillview 33 times, Laravale 14 times, Tamrookum 5 times and Chinghee Creek 5 times.

At the 2022 carnival, Charlie Platell won age champion, the Patrons Trophy Highest Girls Individual Point Scorer, the Drynan Trophy Fastest Girl 800m, broke the record for most individual points and equalled the high jump record.

Charlie also broke a 23-year record for 11-year girls discus with a distance of 18.73m.

Flynn Taylor won the Patrons Trophy Highest Boys Individual Point Scorer and Seth Muller won the Drynan Trophy Fastest Boy 800m.

Tamrookum won the Councillors Award War Cry Trophy and Rathdowney won the Deane Family Marching Trophy.

Thomas Humphries won the Thorpe Family Spirit Award and Tamrookum won both the Greg Bischoff Adult Relay Trophy and the Arthy Cup Relay.

Hillview won the Harry Watkins Memorial Trophy for Most Improved School.
