Members of the hardcore/punk band Global Asset have been recipients of the Scenic Rim Regional Council’s Regional Arts Development Fund (RADF).
The trio, made up of Luca Charles on drums and vocals, Jack Smith shredding the guitar and vocals and Jude Charles strumming bass, received $8,000 from the grant and are thankful for the doors it has opened for them.
“We are very grateful for the grant; it’s been a big help to get us out of the high school band phase. This opportunity allows us to access a professional recording studio in Brisbane and an experienced, professional sound engineer to get our vision out there,” says drummer Luca Charles.
Over the upcoming school holidays, the band hopes to record a five-track extended play (EP) with Joel Myles from Hunting Ground Studios. To launch the EP, they will perform a series of public performances locally.
“We got $8,000 to fund the recording for our EP as well as purchasing equipment to play public gigs that will launch it,” says Luca.
“Jack, Jude and I are currently in the process recording demos to show the producers.”
All music produced by the band is original; they all work collaboratively to create lyrics and music scores.
Jack, 17, taught himself to play guitar when he was 10 years old. Luca, 17, and Jude, 15, have been playing since they were seven.
All members have incredible talent and both Jude and Luca have received best bass and best drummer awards, respectively, from Rock Fest 2023.
Band manager Scott Charles says the band has a bright future.
“Global Asset have developed a unique sound in the hardcore/ punk genre which is a culmination of their individual musical interests and their technical proficiency in their respective instruments,” he said.
The band already has a significant local fan base, which they hope to expand over the coming years through professional recordings and performances.
