Madeline ‘Madi’ Frazer is kickstarting her rugby career at 15-years-old after being selected to play in the Titans Cup Grand Final for Keebra Park State High School.
Keebra Park’s Year 9 /10 Division One girls team fought their way to the top of the ladder undefeated with an unfortunate ending when they lost to Marsden State High School (22-18) in the Grand Final.
“It was really good, we went through undefeated until the grand final – for the first couple of games, the chemistry just kept growing and we all kind of gelled as a team,” Madi said.
“It was a really enjoyable environment to be around and watching everyone grow.”
Madi has been playing football for the last five years but her love for the sport flourished when she reached Grade Eight.
She was grateful to have an opportunity to play in the Titans Cup and to experience playing in in an older team.
“Last year I was in the younger grade, and just being around those girls moving into this year made me kind of feel like a leader to the younger girls, but also being around them taught me a lot,” Madi said.
Madi has already made a name for herself this year, being chosen to represent South Coast U16s Rugby League team and being selected to join the Brisbane Broncos development program.
“It’s good because being at Keebra Park gets me noticed a lot more – playing in the Titans Cup team and South Coast, I got noticed by the Broncos and I’m in their development program,” she said.
“It was really cool. We have training once a month for Broncos – I was crying, I was so grateful. I couldn’t believe it, I was so happy.”
Madi looks forward to a future career in rugby league and hopes to eventually make it to the Queensland Rugby League team.
“I’m definitely trying to see how far I can go with rugby, and I’m trying to get into the academy from Broncos, not just the development program – but that’s just one of my goals,” she said.
“I want to make South Coasts next year and hopefully Queensland – Queensland is definitely on my radar for next year.”
