Friendliness the key to Beaudesert Seniors

The incoming Beaudesert Seniors committee - Sylvia Hickey, Heather Barnes, Lynette Kenny, Beryl Blackley, Neville Jackson and Helen Scroggie.

New Beaudesert Seniors President Helen Scroggie joined the group approximately seven years ago after she retired and moved to the area.

She enjoys the friendliness of Beaudesert Seniors and said the music is one of the highlights for many of the members.

“It is good to all get together and forget about what is going on in the world,” she said.

“We have the music that the members love and we often have a singalong and enjoy some of the old songs.  The members really love that.”

The Beaudesert Seniors AGM held earlier this month was attended by approximately 80 members and invited guests, including June Farmers who was the Beaudesert Seniors’ pianist until last year, as well as representatives from the Beaudesert CWA, National Seniors and Elysium Village.

Helen is looking forward to welcoming new members to the group.

“Because things have changed so much, people retire and go travelling or they look after the grandchildren so their children can get a go ahead.  There must be more people who haven’t taken that step to come along.”

“The response you get quite often is ‘I’m not old enough for a seniors’ group’, but if you are 50 or older you can join us.”

“It’s just lovely to all get together and enjoy ourselves.”

Beaudesert Seniors meets every second Tuesday at Beaudesert Golf Club.

Entry to regular meetings is $12 which includes morning tea and lunch.
