Settling In, Supporting, & Delivering

It’s been a busy time settling in but have enjoyed working with the Council team to help support residents on a large range of items – achieving some positive successes while working towards gaining some satisfactory and suitable outcomes on other issues.

After much training, workshops, and discussion – we are delivering our very first budget! Many items being brought forward from the previous term to deliver for the region, with some important items for all divisions to be ‘slated’ for the future.

Outdoor & Indoor

For two cold Winter mornings, we had breakfast with the Outdoor Staff at the two of the Council Depots. (It is interesting to note that when you leave Tamborine it can be 8 degrees to arrive at Boonah and it drops to 4 degrees! Then slightly colder at 3 degrees in Canungra!) My hat’s off (or beanie) to all of them – they do such an amazing job looking after our outdoor expanse for our region. And it is an expanse being a massive 4256km2 in comparison to 1342km2 for Brisbane City or a mere 958km2 for Logan City!

We also attended a Morning and Afternoon Teas where we met the Indoor Staff who diligently work behind the scenes as the ‘engine’ of the council. They are also very amazing dedicated people giving it their all for our region.

Fire Ants

From 1 July the treatment program will be handed over to Councils to administer but at this time it is council lands which will be administered by Councils while private land treatment will remain with the State Government until further notice. The Fire Ant Eradication Program still need to know where the nests are so more can be treated. Please call 13 25 23 or go to www.fireants.org.au to report.

Council Events

One hundred and twenty ‘foodie’ events for Scenic Rim’s Eat Local Month are wrapping up for June. Three fun-filled Ninja Course and Inflatable Fun events for kids are taking place in Boonah, Tamborine Mountain, and Beaudesert. The Community Roadshow BBQs with live music at community halls for residents will be held on the eastern side of the region in July.

It was a great honour to be present for the Citizenship Ceremony Qld Day Festival; the Opening Ceremony of the Clydesdale Spectacular at Boonah; with the Winter Harvest Food & Wine Festival at Kalbar upcoming.

Looking forward to another great month ahead!
