Christmas and New Year Greetings

I would like to wish everyone a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year, I hope that your holidays are filled with family and friends and that you all take the time to appreciate the Region that we live in. We truly are blessed with a great location as well as the people that live and work here in the Scenic Rim.

Say NO to Domestic Violence

On Saturday 2 December, I joined the Rotary club of Scenic Rim Sunrise and Beaudesert Zonta Club to march against Domestic Violence in Beaudesert. There were around 50 people marching and it was great to see and hear the support from those driving by. I grew up with an abusive alcoholic father, so this issue is very close to my heart, and I have never tolerated any sort of domestic or family violence either from mates or if I see it in the community.

Special Meeting – 6 December 2023

I sought the support of four of my fellow Councillors to request a Special Meeting to consider the return of the CEO Mr David Keenan back to the workplace. The special meeting went for over six hours of deliberations and the result was that I moved a successful motion to resolve to return the CEO to the workplace with Cr’s Hay, West, Chalk and McInnes voting in favour and only Mayor Christensen and Cr Enright voting against the motion. Unfortunately, due to the complex and confidential nature of the issue, I cannot elaborate on the details other than to say this decision was good governance and will see the return of the CEO who is critical to the proper functioning of the Council.

Eucalee Estate

At our November Ordinary meeting we approved the further subdivision of the Eucalee estate with an additional 262 residential lots. These additional lots will be in the section next to the Mt Lindsay Hwy with the access to the estate to be via an intersection with traffic lights.  To ensure we meet the needs of all homeowners these blocks range in size from 451m2 up to 2749m2.  These additional 262 houses will help ease the housing and rental crisis within the Beaudesert area.

Beaudesert Enterprise Precinct

Council has now completed the construction of the industrial land at Beaudesert Enterprise Precinct with an additional 30 lots now available by Tender for small to medium-sized businesses. There has already been strong demand by local businesses who are looking to expand their business footprint.

Everdell Park Cricket Lights

I have requested through Council for funding to be allocated out of our Sports Lighting budget to fund the installation of the Beaudesert Cricket Club batting practice nets lights.

Last Councillor Column

This will be my last Councillor Column as the Div 2 Councillor, so thank you to Beaudesert Bulletin owner Keer Moriarty for putting up with the sometimes-late arrival of my column. As you will all know I have decided to run for Mayor in 2024 and hope that you will put that same faith in me to lead this Council for you – the community.

Quote of the Day –   Leadership is a team sport – learning to work with others is a critical skill. This means articulating a clear vision, setting priorities, giving coaching, getting coaching and learning to seek advice from the team. – Robert S. Kaplan
