The Scenic Rim sporting community will soon enjoy new lighting at Selwyn Park at Beaudesert and Coronation Park in Boonah following the approval of more than $1.1 million in funding.
Scenic Rim Regional Council has secured $1,089,053 under Phase Four of the Australian Government’s Local Roads and Community Infrastructure Program to install sports field lighting at Coronation Park and upgrade the field lighting at Selwyn Park.
Council has also secured an additional $40,000 towards the project from Queensland Cricket, via Round One of the 2023-2024 Australian Cricket Infrastructure Fund. This assisted the funding of a new switchboard and lighting controls at Coronation Park.
Recognising the part played by sport in the health and wellbeing of Scenic Rim residents, Council identified the upgrades as priority projects in its Sports Facilities Strategic Review 2023-2032 to enable the fullest use of these popular community facilities.
This will also ensure that the sporting facilities provided by Council meet the needs of the region, now and into the future.
Council is grateful for the funding for the new lighting and remains committed to ensuring that the community’s multi-sport, high-use facilities are developed and upgraded regularly so residents have access to modern sporting facilities for evening training and matches.
Scott Buchholz, Federal Member for Wright, said the funding was investing in the local community to build better infrastructure and support the Beaudesert and Boonah communities.
“Both Coronation Park in Boonah and Selwyn Park in Beaudesert are magnificent community facilities and this funding will install lighting to ensure greater utilisation of the fields and provide a better place for residents enjoy their sport and recreation,” Mr Buchholz said.
“I look forward to seeing this project come to fruition and the increased utilisation of sports fields.”
