Council Comment – Cr Stephen Moriarty

At the Gondwanan Heritage exhibition launch.

It’s been a busy few weeks as I settle into my role as the elected councillor for Division Three.

As with any new job, it takes time to familiarise yourself with an organisation’s systems, processes, and culture, and I’m grateful to the Council staff who have assisted with my transition into Council.

I had the honour of officially launching Council’s new exhibition, Floras of Gondwanan Heritage, on Saturday May 18 at The Centre in Beaudesert.

Attendees were inspired by the creativity of exhibition artist Dr Renata Buziak and enjoyed hearing Dr Victoria Garnons-Williams’ expert commentary.

Thank you to Aunty Gerry Page for her Welcome to Country and to Bloom Collective for their wonderful performance. The free Floras of Gondwanan Heritage exhibition is open until July 13 2024.

Roadworks

Works continue across the roads throughout Division Three including at Cainbable, Chinghee Creek, Christmas Creek, Darlington, Josephville, and Kerry.

Eat Local Month

Tickets are selling fast for Eat Local Month, with 120+ events to be held across the region throughout June. There are several signature events happening in Division Three including High Tea in the Fields at Beechmont Estate and the Longest Lunch at O’Reilly’s.

Visit eatlocalmonth.com.au for more information.

Community Halls

Council is inviting residents to provide feedback on what activities and programs they would like to see offered at community halls across the Scenic Rim. Community consultation is now open via Let’s Talk Scenic Rim website and feedback will be accepted until July 31.

The Community Halls Roadshow was developed in partnership with halls’ committees across the region – and will see eight community events where residents are invited to meet Council’s project team and the halls’ committees to complete the consultation in-person.

There will be events at Hillview Memorial Hall on Friday June 14 and Kerry Memorial Hall on Saturday June 22 from 6pm to 8pm including free live music and a free barbeque dinner.

Hope to see you there!
