Looking back through old photos of shops and trading names in our town, many things have changed.

Yet, it is thought, one Beaudesert building doesn’t seem to have varied the type of business operating from it over the years.

It is true that there have been changes to the internal fittings and equipment; however, it is believed that the shop now known as Heit’s Quality Meats has been trading as a butcher, under many different names – since beginning around 1928, when owned by Jack Aldridge.

Besides the hotels and perhaps a couple of other shops, many generations have been able to purchase their meat related products in this location.

The building is thought to have been updated or replaced at some point.

Customers received good old fashioned friendly and personalised service; most owners offered home delivery.

Those from the outlying areas were able to place an order and have it delivered by their local mailman.

The interaction with the butcher, who used everyone’s preferred name, and the light hearted banter, helped to brighten your day.

Like many local businesses, the butchers have supported the P&C’s and communities with vouchers, meat trays and raffle prizes.

Some owners sponsored sporting teams.

There have been many changes over time; with different cuts of meat, how we cook our foods and preferences for example.

Many continue to feel spoiled by these craftsmen who can slice a steak to the individuals’ desired thickness.

Yet, what has not really changed, is that there are only so many good cuts from a carcass, and a butcher still has to learn how to make mince and sausages.
