A group formed to advocate for landholders in the Biddaddaba region will fold if new members are not found.
The Biddaddaba Creek Action Group was formed in 1988 for the betterment of the valley, said Robert Cawley.
Robert, along with George Massam, are now in their eighties and are calling for the community in the Biddaddaba area to join the Group and continue the work they have been doing for almost four decades.
Initially the Group started because of pollution in the creek caused by a feedlot that has since moved on.
Robert described it as a David and Goliath battle that ended in the refusal of the feedlot’s application to expand and subsequent relocation of the feedlot.
“Our local councillor then was Geoff Sharp and he came out and had a look around and helped us,” said Robert.
The Group was also the starting point for the Biddaddaba Fire Brigade who have been invaluable in protecting properties in the area.
Today, they continue to advocate for improvements to the area, including fire ant eradication, controlling pests, holding field days and advocating to raise bridges and culverts that regularly flood.
Both Robert and George are keen to see the organisation continue and believe there is more that can be achieved by residents working together.
An information day will be held at 41 Clark Road, Biddaddaba from 10am on Sunday 23 June for interested residents of Boyland, Biddaddaba and Taragalba.
