A growers’ market, long lunches and local dinner, workshops in cheese making, vegetable growing and cooking over a fire, a sunset session overlooking Wyaralong Dam and a campfire lunch in the mountains.
These are the events locals from Beaudesert and surrounds can experience in their own backyard at 2024 Scenic Rim Eat Local Month.
The paddock-to-plate program of events, which started as Eat Local Week in 2011 and now goes for the month of June across the region, attracts foodies from near and far.
To kick the month off on June 1, producers from Beaudesert and surrounds, including Towri Sheep Cheeses, Tommerup’s Dairy Farm and Barney Creek Vineyard Cottages will have their goods available for purchase at the Towri Growers’ Market from 9am to 2pm.
Towri will also host its Cheese Making Workshop on June 12 and the Feast and Fire workshop on June 14.
Ned’s Steakhouse will host A Taste of Local Dinner on June 21.
The Overflow Estate 1895, overlooking Wyaralong Dam, will host Long Lunch events at their on-site restaurant Roastbeef and the Frog each Friday in June and a Sunset Session with Scenic Rim singer Laura Frank on June 22.
Wild Mountains Environmental Education Centre at Running Creek will host Campfire Lunch and Nature Immersion events on June 22 and 23.
Oaky Creek Farm & Harvest Café near Rathdowney will host its Growing Root Crops Workshop on June 22.
Scenic Rim Regional Council Mayor Tom Sharp said it was an opportunity to connect with where local produce comes from.
“People are not only tasting the freshness of the product but understanding the farmers’ experience in terms of lifestyle and their dedication to quality produce,” he said.
“There is an increasing awareness that rural production goes beyond the farm as we’re seeing artisans taking the raw product and creating something of even greater value.
“With more than 120 events offering something for every taste and budget, Eat Local Month is a time for our region and our producers to shine.” For more information and bookings visit www.eatlocalmonth.com.au
