BEAUDESERT parkrun organisers have praised the community for its support at the town’s first parkrun trials.

More than 130 people were out on course at the first parkrun trial on April 7, with strong interest in the second parkrun trial set for April 14 at time of print.

Event Directors Mel Frazer and Shelly Currie, who have been trying to get a local parkrun since 2015, were ecstatic with the turnout.

“Even though it was wet, muddy, squishy and smelly it was great to see everyone still smiling and having fun,” said Shelly.

“Melissa and I want to send out a massive shout out and thank you to all the amazing volunteers who came from near and far to support us. To all the runners, walkers, pram pushers, fur babies and first-time parkrunners who came out in this weather and supported us – you are all legends.”

Shelly said beyond the community getting behind the new event, support from Spring Creek Development, parkrun and Scenic Rim Regional Council was key to getting it off the ground.

“Once again thank you to Spring Creek Development Manager Chris McKinnon and Spring Creek for making this happen by allowing us to use their land and covering all the costs involved with their sponsorship and Scenic Rim Council for their support also,” she said.

“And finally thank you Lachie Miners, our Regional Event Ambassador for parkrun, for coming along and helping us make sure the morning ran smoothly.”

Mel said it felt like a boost for Beaudesert.

“People came from everywhere and we had support from Yarrabilba, Springfield and Greenbank parkrun, volunteering and participating and I think we even had people from Gatton,” she said.

“It’s so good for our community, because Julie Ferguson (volunteer Run Director on the day) encouraged everyone to go get a coffee in town when they finished, she named all the coffee shops that were open and people were sending us pictures of themselves at the coffee shop, which was excellent.”

At time of print a date was yet to be announced for Beaudesert’s first parkrun, which will be on each Saturday.
