The Beaudesert Show Ambassador program has been an integral part of Alex Buchanan’s life for the past four years.
In 2023, he made history as the first male to enter and place in the Junior Ambassador category since the guidelines were changed to include male entrants. This year he made history again as the first male to win a title in Beaudesert.
Alex said 2022 Junior Ambassador Brianan Turner first encouraged him to enter the competition when he was 13 years of age.
Over the past four years, Alex has grown in knowledge and confidence through the ambassador program and says it has made him feel more connected to the community.
He has strong connections to the agriculture industry in the region.
His family breeds stock horses at Hillview and Alex competed in the Stockman’s challenge at last year’s show and intends to compete again this year.
The show is an important part of Alex’s life, but his interest goes beyond the rides and showbags that many teenagers enjoy.
“I like seeing what everyone has to offer and showcase. The horses, cattle and even pumpkins that people enter – I like to see the effort and the sacrifices people have made to be a part of the show.”
Incredibly proud
Beaudesert Show Ambassador Coordinator Tim Andrews said all the entrants should be incredibly proud.
“It takes courage to put your hand up, face an interview panel and speak in front of a crowd. They represented themselves, their families and the Beaudesert Show Society exceptionally well,” he said.
Mr Andrews said the judges faced the difficult task of selecting the successful ambassadors from an impressive and diverse field.
Kaitlyn Blake was awarded the Rural Ambassador title, and Katrina Utting was announced as 2026 Beaudesert Showgirl.
“The Ambassador Program is not about finding someone with the perfect answer. It is about recognising community spirit, communication, leadership potential, agricultural awareness and a genuine willingness to represent something bigger than yourself,” he said.
“We are incredibly fortunate to have such a strong group of young people involved this year, and all 11 entrants will remain an important part of our Ambassador family as we head towards the Beaudesert Show in September.”
The 2026 Ambassadors and their fellow entrants will take part in community activities in the lead-up to the Beaudesert Show and will play an active role across both days of the Show in September.
