Thousands Descend on Coulson for Australia’s Premier Motocross Championship Finale
The Scenic Rim was once again in the national spotlight over the weekend as Queensland Moto Park (QMP) at Coulson hosted the final round of the 2026 Penrite ProMX Championship, Australia’s premier motocross series.
Over two action-packed days on 1–2 August, thousands of spectators, competitors, officials, volunteers and support crews travelled from across Australia and overseas to witness championship-deciding racing at Queensland Moto Park, reinforcing the Scenic Rim’s growing reputation as one of Australia’s leading motorsport and adventure tourism destinations.
For the Scenic Rim Regional Council, the event demonstrated the significant economic and tourism benefits major sporting events bring to the region.
Visitors filled local accommodation, fuel stations, cafés, supermarkets and hospitality venues throughout the weekend, with many extending their stay to experience the Scenic Rim’s renowned food, wineries, national parks and attractions.
Queensland Moto Park management said hosting the ProMX Championship finale was about much more than motorcycle racing.
“Events like ProMX showcase everything the Scenic Rim has to offer. People travel here from all over Australia, and many discover our region for the first time. They leave talking about the racing, but they also leave impressed by the hospitality, the scenery and everything else the Scenic Rim has to offer.”
Queensland Moto Park acknowledged the support of the Scenic Rim Regional Council, Motorcycling Queensland, Motorcycling Australia, event partners and the many local businesses that contributed to the success of the weekend.
“The event simply couldn’t happen without the incredible support of our volunteers, officials, emergency services, contractors and local businesses. It really is a community effort.”
The event also highlighted Queensland Moto Park’s importance as a year-round tourism asset for the region. As Australia’s largest recreational motorcycle riding facility, the park attracts thousands of visitors annually, supporting local employment and encouraging ongoing investment in the Scenic Rim.
The racing certainly lived up to expectations, with multiple championship battles going down to the wire. Fans were treated to spectacular racing as Australia’s best riders battled for national honours, while championships were decided in front of enthusiastic crowds.
Away from the track, spectators enjoyed trade displays, food vendors, family-friendly entertainment and opportunities to meet Australia’s leading riders, creating a festival atmosphere throughout the venue.
A standout feature of the weekend was the commitment of the volunteer workforce. More than 30 on track volunteers donated countless hours assisting with track preparation, event operations, rider services, spectator management and logistics, helping deliver a safe and professional national championship.
Queensland Moto Park also welcomed visitors from interstate and overseas, further enhancing the Scenic Rim’s profile as a destination capable of hosting nationally significant sporting events.
With another successful ProMX Championship now complete, attention is already turning to future opportunities to attract major events that continue to generate tourism, economic activity and national exposure for the Scenic Rim.
