Beaudesert State High School student Alexander Stewart has been selected to represent 14 year old boys in the Australian Futsal Team and tour the United Kingdom (UK) in October this year.

Australian Futsal Association (AFA) selected Alexander for his outstanding performance at the 2024 National Club Futsal Championships where he plays the position of goalkeeper.

The 17 day tour will include specialised training, playing games against regional representative teams from Scotland, England and Wales, and attending professional football matches.

His mother Nicola Taylor is extremely proud of her son’s achievement and appreciates AFA being able to give Alexander this opportunity.

“I’m super proud – I just think it’s great for him to be acknowledged for his hard work and his passion,” Nicola said.

“It’s lovely to see him enjoying it – he’s really lucky.”

Alexander first played futsal at seven years old and he has kept his ongoing passion since.

Nicola appreciates the academy programs Beaudesert State High School has to offer for Alexander and other students in Beaudesert.

“The school has a great soccer academy program – he just loves it,” she said.

“I’m really glad that he got the opportunity to do it with the school.”

Nicola says that Alexander is most excited to travel UK and watch the premier league games, as well as playing for Australia against other teams.

“He’s most excited about travelling and getting to visit some of the football stadiums, and attending a couple of games they’ll get to go and watch,” Nicola said.

“Also, I think just playing and versing other clubs while they’re there – they’re playing and representing as well.”

AFA will support the team of representatives, including Alexander, while they are overseas to ensure supervision and co-ordination is organised throughout the entire tour.

“The Futsal Association itself have it really well planned and I feel quite safe in that aspect,” Nicola said.

“I’m a bit nervous because he’s only 14, but you just got to be ready just in case something happens while he’s over there.”

Nicola looks forward to keeping updated while Alexander is on the tour.
