Christensen concedes

In a public statement, Greg Christensen has formally conceded the 2024 Local Government Election, acknowledging Tom Sharp as the new Mayor of the Scenic Rim.

Christensen was first elected in 2016 and has played a major role in promoting tourism in the region.

“I am hereby notifying of my formal concession of this election,” he said.

“I offer my congratulations to Tom Sharp as it is clear he will be the next to take custody of the Council for this great place we call home.

I have been proud to serve this region for eight years of both the greatest highs and some of our biggest challenges.

I leave office knowing our region has come of age under my leadership with international recognition of our rich heritage and character. In spite of every challenge, our economy has gone from strength to strength and is now at its strongest with the foundation well laid for further growth.

My vision has always been to ensure a strong and vibrant future for our farmers, families, businesses and communities.

I have been blessed by the rich talent within our operating teams and some very talented senior leaders through this time.

There are many things I will be proud of leaving as forever legacies.

Thank you to all who have supported and worked with me on this great endeavour.

I offer particular praise to my amazing wife who has sacrificed much for this shared cause and stood with me to support communities in every crisis.

Now to catch up on eight years of lost sleep.”
