Over a dozen volunteers arrived with buckets, gloves and trowels for a Sunday soil stomp on the newly laid grass courts at the Beaudesert and Districts Netball Association.
The courts, financed by a $100,000 Gambling Community Benefit Fund grant, were still unused when a group of cows invaded, leaving the surface pock-marked by their hooves.
It is hoped that repairs done to fill the divots will allow the courts to recover in time for the highly anticipated Scenic Rim Challenge on July 28.
The competition is hotly contested amongst both junior and senior netball players from BDNA, Fassifern, Tamborine and Beechmont.
BDNA president, Susan Wynne said it was disappointing that funds raised at the Queensland Day celebration in Jubilee Park had to be channeled towards the repairs.
“It is always difficult to make our funds go round and the added expense of maintenance to our new courts before they have even been used is something we could have done without.”
“Hopefully we have seen the last of the cattle.”
