WOODHILL Hall celebrates its 130th anniversary with a celebration dance on April 20 at 6098 Mt Lindesay Highway, Woodhill from 7pm.

The event has a theme of Old Time/New Vogue and will consist of live music from returning band ‘The Undecided’ and a supper for visitors to enjoy.

The admission price is $10 with under 14 years free; everyone is welcome to join this historical occasion.

Hall Secretary Arthur Day delved deep into the history of Woodhill Hall to uncover the impact the Hall has had on the community throughout the last 130 years.

“The activities and stories of this old hall would more than fill a book,” Arthur said.

Woodhill Hall has celebrated previous anniversaries through celebration dances, including their 25thAnniversary in 1950 where the dancing continued into the small hours of the morning.

The Hall held many functions, from dances to weddings, with a monthly dance held for local charities.

“The stories can go on and on, with many different uses of the hall. Dances have been run to fundraise for Ambulance, cricket, school, Rural Youth, and school discos,” Arthur said.

The Hall building started as a courthouse at Veresdale, along with a police station, jail, and jailhouse.

“The government called tenders for its removal and district members purchased it for the purpose of using it as a School of Arts and Public Hall,” Arthur said.

The original Woodhill Hall committee was filled with dedicated residents from the local community and has continued forth throughout the past 130 years with the current team having over 200 years of voluntary service.

The building has seen quite a few changes over the years with a new dance floor, lighting, piano, and veranda extensions being installed.

Many significant extensions have been made to the Hall to unify the community and represent the history of Scenic Rim.

“A War Memorial was erected in front of the hall after World War II – this was paid for by funds remaining from a community war fund for packages sent overseas to serving members on the war front,” Arthur said.

The 130 years of Woodhill Hall has shown to have endless stories and will continue to for as long as it remains.
